This page will include some of my planned trail runs or nice walks - unsurprisingly most that feature will be Lake District based. It will also include some recipes (yes, recipes!) I have tried over the last year for re-hydration & re-fuelling both pre and post training.
As with most of these routes thanks to Trail Running Magazine for the ideas! So in no particular order....
Having recently ventured up to Arnside Knott I can confirm (not that I need to) that the views are indeed amazing from up here, however, I would perhaps suggest the route as being a little more difficult than the 'Easy' rating. Arnside Knott is a fair old tramp uphill and was hardwork walking down at points, that said I am still on the bum side of an injury so maybe I am biased.
Should you wish to do this route the other way round there are some nice little cafes and ice cream shops in Arnside - perfect for that post run treat!!
A well known cycling haunt of friends I have often wondered if it was runnable - apparently so!
With the Tri training under way and the nights drawing out it has been discussed that we take to the trails for some off-road cycling for some giggles and fitness as this spot is only about an hour away from me.
If memory serves there is also another walk route in the area which takes you up around the reservoir.
And now on to the Lakes......
Having lived an hour away from the Lakes all my life I take them somewhat fro granted and haven't ever utilised them to anywhere near their potential with only fleeting visits here and there and mostly driving through them whilst at work. Last year I took part in the Lakeland Trails Coniston 10k and it only re-iterated to me what I already knew - I must visit and do more in the Lakes!! Whilst this route mainly take you around the Lake so it shouldn't be too hilly there are plenty of opportunities to add in extra distance and some hills!
This route particularly takes my interest for return from injury as it is probably at about the limit of my current distance with only a max ascent of 100m right at the end back into Buttermere. So just holding out for a sunny afternoon to get 2 mates back out into the trails too - you know I'm coming for you Dyke & Ruttzy!!! - I have no idea why though they are both seasoned fell runners who will leave me for dead (not literally - I hope!)
This was one of the 1st routes to catch my eye in the Trail Running Mag - at the time doing half the loop appealed to me. Starting at the southern tip and heading to Pooley Bridge - I think 15k was probably about my max training distance at the time, seems a long way now though!
Maybe in a few months time - I suspect this route is part of the Lakeland Trails Ullswater race as I think you catch the steamer to the start point.
